Everton have lodged an appeal with the FA over Tim Cahill's red card against Liverpool on Saturday.
The Australian international was sent off in the 80th minute of the club's 2-0 defeat by Liverpool for tackle on Xabi Alonso. Mike Riley, the referee, showed Cahill a straight red card, which allows Everton the right to appeal the subsequent three-match ban.
Club officials put forward the appeal this morning and Everton say a hearing will take place later this week. Cahill faces a three-match ban if his appeal is unsuccessful, and could miss Sunday's home match with Newcastle United.

Well done Mr Riley. This type of foot down refereeing is long overdue. Rules of the game need to be read and more importantly understood by players and management alike.
The Fa in this case need to support the man they put in the middle.
Paul Rushton, Bolton, England
I would hope that the red card is not rescinded. Cahill's disrespect to the referee by walking away should be punished as well as his foul tackle.
David, Poole,
Saw the game, the challenge was not intelligent but also not as bad as the one against the ManU player.
Cahill got red-carded because he was involved in an incident before - where he was the victim but behaved aggressively. Since the ref was highly biased towards L'Pool, this card was inevitable.

Yes Al London
I hear your point but remember this is the FA we are talking about here.
He will either have his ban extended or the card recinded depending on whether the FA coin lands on Heads or Tails
Dan Goodall , South Shields, England
Everton are foolish to appeal this decision.
Two footed, late challenge with intent.
Red card will not be, and should not be, recinded.
End of.
Al, London,
