Everton will open talks with Kyle Naughton after having an undisclosed bid for the England Under-21 defender accepted by Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old made 39 league starts for Kevin Blackwell’s side last season, including an appearance in the Championship play-off final defeat to Burnley.

"We have accepted a bid for Kyle,” Terry Robinson, the Sheffield United chairman, said. “The two clubs have been negotiating this last week and we have agreed terms with Everton, but nothing has been agreed with the player.

"We won't be revealing the amount until any deal is done and our acceptance is conditional on Kyle reaching agreement with them over personal terms. It's a good deal for the player and Sheffield United. We wouldn't have agreed to it if it wasn't."

Everton have completed the signing of Anton Peterlin from Ventura County Fusion in the United States. The 22-year-old midfielder could make his debut in Friday’s friendly against Bury.

David Moyes also hopes to have Jo, the Manchester City striker, in his squad for the game at Gigg Lane, with talks over a season-long loan expected to be concluded soon. The 22-year-old scored five times in 12 games during a five-month loan spell at Goodison Park last season.
