Fulham are waiting to discover if their remarkable escape from relegation will be capped by a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
Manchester City had been the favourites to land England's bonus place in the competition after the Premier League topped the continent's fair play competition. The place will go to the highest-placed side in the Premier League's own fair play table not to have qualified for Europe by other means. Until yesterday City had been in pole position but they chances were dented following the dismissal of Richard Dunne in their 8-1 defeat by Middlesbrough.
Dunne's red card could therefore see Fulham, who survived the drop after Danny Murphy scored a 76th-minute winner at Portsmouth, leap above them.
The table, however, is complicated as it takes into account factors such as respect towards referees and opponents, 'positive play' and behaviour of club officials, as well as red and yellow cards. The Premier League must await all delegates' reports before the final standings can be compiled and UEFA must then carry out an audit.
Publication is therefore not likely until later in the week or even early next week. Tottenham had been the country's top-ranked side in the fair play league last week but they have already qualified for the UEFA Cup. Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal made up the top four with Everton, another qualifier, in sixth. City were fifth with Fulham seventh. Blackburn, who had been in with an outside chance of snatching an Intertoto Cup spot going into the final game, were bottom.

Fulham have played the game in the right way even when faced with relegation and we have been and are a sporting club. We would be great representatives of English football and all I can say is I hope we get the nod. Bear in mind we are one of the most recent clubs in England to win a European cup.

Maybe it's just me but the final sentence in this article, whilst factually correct, seems to have been added to fuel the stereotypical view that Blackburn are a dirty team. The fair play league seems to not to be fair to Blackburn!
Jason Shinks, Blackburn, UK
Blackburn have been tarnished all year because they still can't shift their "Rough Image" created by certain oposition managers in the last few years and latched on by the media! Although many pundits have agreed this is unfair during this season, Mr.Wenger's comments still persuades refs otherwise.

City should be appealing anyway - there was absolutely no intention in the trip that caused the penalty. Penalty yes, but no deliberate attempt to prevent a goal-scoring opportunity.
Even if this story had a shred of credibility (the gap too big to be closed by 1 send-off) City simply appeal.

The UEFA website states that the fairplay season ended the 30th April so I don't know how Richard Dunne's sending off at the weekend changes things!!.
