Harry Kewell, the out-of-contract Liverpool winger, is determined to prove Rafael Benitez wrong, after being released by the Anfield club.
The 29-year-old, who made 139 appearances for Liverpool, has failed to recapture the form he showed at Leeds United since his move, although his time on Merseyside has been marred by a combination of injury and inconsistent form.
Despite that, the Australia international remains confident of his abilities insisting that he has nothing to prove to anyone - except Benitez.
"The one person I'd like to show is my old manager," Kewell said. "I didn't get a chance to show him a lot of what I could do and it would be great to show him what I was capable of doing. I didn't put my hand up to be injured. It's one of those things you have to go through in your life and it's a shame."
Kewell also played down reports claiming he has already agreed a deal with Portsmouth.
"Apparently my agent did it [a deal with Portsmouth] while he was on the plane coming over to Australia, so I don't know how he's done that," Kewell said on a trip to his homeland.
"But I've never shied away from going abroad. I've never shied away from playing in the Premier League, I've never shied away from playing anywhere. My options are open and we'll see what happens."

Being so far away , i have not heard all that has been going onwith negotiations. I was surprised and felt that a reduced offer was insulting, (just as HK probably did)
Benitz never utlilised Harry to his full potential - in my opinion
never played him the right position in the team....

The biggest problem with HK is that he is very selfish when on the ball. He does not release the ball and he never sends in crosses. Unfortunately he is not that accurate on goal. I think Liverpool has enough backup for Kewell. Apart from Babel, Sebastian Leto, Benayoun and Aurelio are options.

I hope Kewell isn't having a pop at Benitez - who could have quite easily off-loaded him as soon as he gained the slightest sign of match fitness. I think Benitez is perfectly aware of what Kewell is 'capable' of, hence putting his faith in him for 2 Champions League finals.
neil, southampton,
the problem is mr kewell, is that you had the chance to prove rafa RIGHT as you were offered a new contract by "your boyhood club", albeit on reduced terms, yet you decided to turn it down, despite owing a huge debt of gratitude for the club sticking by you through your injuries.
darren jones, liverpool, england
We'll miss you Harry....29 y/o is getting up there....but HK does have decent pace, can distribute, and he's not a prolific goal scorer (never his agenda) but can regulate and assist on the left wing....MLS perhaps? ;)
Note: DC United's mayor won't build a field for them...God bless America

Duff and Kewell, two outstanding talents ruined by injury, still two champions league final apperance and one FA cup is not a bad thing to tell the grandchildren Harry!
