The top 50 Liverpool moments I Why the Kop struggles to love Gerrard
2007-present
Surprised he's only just scraped into the top 50? I know, I know, there are plenty more who deserve the place. But it's a matter of courtesy. Torres has a prodigious talent and can get into the top ten of Liverpool greats if his career pans out. So it's more of an incentive. Oh, I'm sorry. I misunderstood. You expected him to be higher? Ha, ha. He's in the company of big boys now. Read on and you will see why.
49 Rob Jones
1991-95 243 appearances
Who? Some may ask. Well, had the best right back English football has ever produced stayed fit, you'd have been asking "Gary who?” about Neville. Jones had everything - a great engine that made him an overlapping machine, a fine cross for a full back and a great tackle. He was forced to retire at the age of 27 ten years ago with only eight caps to his name. Had Jones not been hobbled by injuries, how many England appearances might Bury's finest have got? Who knows? But he probably would have got on when Sven played half the population of the country against Australia at Upton Park that night in 2003.
Not 48 Bruce Grobbelaar
1981-94 628 appearances
I'm happy to believe him when he says he didn't concede goals for money. I'm happy to accept it when he says he was trying to flush out match-fixers. On his own. But, whatever the reason he ended up being recorded on video saying he dived the wrong way against Manchester United and the ball hit his hand by mistake and it cost him £125,000, I don't like it. Even if it's a joke.
That's why he's so low on this list, despite his jelly legs in Rome in 1984, despite the handstands and the clowning and the brilliant saves. No, hang on. Let's be honest. I just don't like him. He's out the fifty. New number 48.
And, while we're on the subject of leaving people out, if you're looking for McManaman, he's on Setanta
