Luiz Felipe Scolari

Whenever something bad happens to Sven-Göran Eriksson, Scolari, right, is not far away. The FA's first choice to replace Eriksson as England head coach in 2006, the 59-year-old won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, knocking out Eriksson's England in the process, before getting the better of the Swede with Portugal in the quarter-finals of Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

Frank Rijkaard

Regarded as one of the best players of all time, he also proved himself to be an adept coach, steering Barcelona to a league and European Cup double in 2006.

Guus Hiddink

Another with a huge reputation, he led South Korea to fourth place in the 2002 World Cup, having done the same with Holland four years earlier, and steered Australia to the second round of the 2006 finals, before taking charge of Russia, whom he guided to Euro 2008 this summer.

Slaven Bilic

The former West Ham United defender masterminded Croatia's two victories over England during qualifying for Euro 2008, including the 3-2 win at Wembley last November that ensured England will play no part in the finals.

Marcello Lippi

The 60-year-old, who has not worked since winning the World Cup with Italy in 2006, is one of the most outstanding coaches of his generation, having worked at a host of top clubs including Juventus and Inter Milan.
