Uefa are to launch an investigation into last night's clashes between rival fans and the police at Manchester United's Champions League match with AS Roma in Rome.
William Gaillard, the communications director, who was in the stadium, said: “I only saw glimpses of what went on, I saw some missiles flying and the police charging. We will be waiting for the delegate’s report and the control and disciplinary body will be looking at the television images to see the dynamics of what actually happened.”
There can be no doubt that something went wrong but is it AS Roma's fault? Should they be thrown out of the Champions League for failing to control the crowd?

50% of one and half a dozen of the other, its the minority that always ruin everything for everybody else, the MU fans can't be without complete blame they had trouble also in Lens against Lille while other teams who have been to Rome havn't had the same problems, the italian police didn't react without cause, and the MU fans know that they are police and not stewards. I also protest about the one sided view points and the hate that it can cause (same old story where the good and their the bad) then we wonder why certain things happen in the world, religious wars etc.

the Olimpico stadium is not Roma's property (Roma and Lazio have a long term rental agreement) it' s state controlled by the olympic committee (called CONI) so police and governement are responsible for everything that is related to health & safety matters, plus nothing particularly bad or violent was done inside the stadium by the fans it was the police that overreacted (as usual) so what about the fight between Chelsea and Tottenham hooligans after the Quarter fnal 1st leg at Stamford Brige few weeks ago? Should Chelsea be punsihed for that too?Should the team be thrown out of the FA cup? i don't think so....

The Italian clubs should not even have been in this years chapions league!

It would be unfair to throw Roma out when any mismanagement was on the part of the police, which Roma don't have any control over. I don't understand why the police couldn't have stationed officers on both sides of the partition to prevent Roma fans provoking Manchester's by running at the screen. However, it was evident from the TV pictures that Manchester United's fans were giving at least as good as they got and many people appear to be ignoring this fact.

I'm sorry but the only team that will be thrown off Champions League is Man Utd.
Not for a political decision, but ON THE PITCH.
See ya,Sir Alex!!!

are you kidding ? might be that police overreacted (MU fans didn't do anything at all to justify a reaction by police, isn't it ?) but AS Roma have no control on that as the stadium (and the overall organisation of the event) is not theirs.
Why are these things always happening when brits are playing away games ? Why nothing had happened so far with 5 UCL matches already played in Rome ?
Isn't that the very-well-controlled english fans, when out of UK borders do not behave as they do at home ?

Of course Roma should not be thrown out. More importantly, there is absolutely no way they will be. These sorts of scenes would appear to be tolerated on the continent as they happen repeatedly with little punishment. It is rather a shame that travelling fans tend to have more to fear from the local authorities than the local thugs, but that is the way it is.
In any case, far better for United to get their act together and knock Roma out on the pitch. Although they will have to show considerably more common sense. They are lucky only to be 2-1 down.

What hell are you saying??!!!
What does AS Roma matters?
Yesterday I was there and saw people without respect for the city and its inhabitants. Wild ones.
All British supporters should stay at home!
When they go out, they become animals.
