The Glazer family today firmly dismissed any chance of a Manchester United takeover in response to the latest rumours suggesting the club is being targeted by overseas investors.
Rival groups from China and Dubai were reported today to be preparing £1billion takeover bids for the Red Devils.
But the Glazers moved quickly to stress that no bid has been made and that in any case the club is definitely not for sale.
"Manchester United is not for sale," said a Glazers' spokesman. "The Glazer family are not engaged in any discussion with any prospective bidder and it is not courting bidders for Manchester United."
It is understood that an unnamed Chinese consortium approached the club - rather than the Glazer family - months ago to see if the Glazers would be interested in selling United and were told the club was not for sale.
The Chinese consortium made contact only to establish if the Glazers would consider a bid and, as they were told the club was not for sale, no bid followed.
Reports have suggested that the Glazers might be tempted by a takeover bid in the region of £1billion but privately the Glazers have made it clear that £1billion undervalues United.
The Glazers paid £790million for United over two years ago to complete a takeover that was initially controversial with a section of the club's fans.
But the Glazers appear to have won over some of the less antagonistic members of the United support by backing Sir Alex Ferguson very strongly in the transfer market since taking control.

Haha, absolutely quality comedy comments. How deluded are Liverpool fans? When will you learn? "Fergie's worst nightmare" lol. Oh well, maybe next year! I can already hear comments like above after you beat Watford 5-1 in October.
Justin, New York,
It's too early for the Kops to get carried away. First of all, this is Derby and almost everyone has tipped them to return to the 1st division even before the season began. Secondly, remember Houllier's 2002/03 season? Liverpool was top until around October and by May, they finished fifth. Nowadays getting 80 points is a must in order to win the league and if Liverpool is to win the league, they must be able to beat Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal consistently.
Peter, Hong Kong,
pennant didn't play love!

Aidan Magee cites the signing of Nathan Ellington by Watford as an indication of a wealth gap emerging in the Championship. But Watford generated almost exactly the same amount as they spent on Ellington by the sale of Bouazza to Fulham. And several of the Watford players on the pitch on Saturday, like Bouazza, came through the ranks at Vicarage Road. Lloyd Doyley deserves special mention - I thought he had an excellent game and I would have put him ahead of McAnuff as MOTM. Mind you, the Duke looked pretty special when he came on so I think the money was well spent.

genius manager+ hungry talented squad+ stable boardroom+ world's most passionate fans+ rich generous owners= Fergie's worst nightmare.
jim, brussels, belgium
I'm sure he would have been - if he played for either Blackburn or City...which he doesn't!
Chris D, Blackpool, Lancashire
Magnificent display of symphonic football. The old and new players meshed into hunting packs of wolfs that scared the living daylights of the poor opposition. Sunderland did better last week because they were more compact and took the game with more confidance, but they still lost by two. Benitez is right. If, and when, you have scorers all over the pitch, the opposition will not be able to focus their strengths and shrink inwards. Whether Liverpool wins the league this year or not, we are in for a treat of magical footballing display not burdened on the shoulders of the few, but spread throughout the squad. I think Roman bought the wrong club.
Matt HK, Hong Kong, China
Er Michael - Pennant wasnt playing - he doent play for either Arsenal or Portsmouth.
Geoff, London,

Liverpool will not move from the top of the league now.
Barry Cornhill, Liverpool, UK
What poor journalism.
Ellington was bought with money from the sale of Hameur Bouazza to Fulham, who was a product of Watford's academy.
Henderson's transfer to Preston did not "fall through"; Watford gave him a new improved four-year contract to retain him, as he is wanted.
Kabba is not injured.
Ellignton has been pursued by Watford for a long time; the defeat at Leicester did not panic them into buying him.
Mark Baker, Watford, Herts
The longer McLaren fails to pick Pennant for his England squads, the better for Liverpool. He played 60 minutes on the weekend and no one played better than him. He is in a rich vein of form at Liverpool and long may it continue.
NZCrawf, Dubai, UAE
I agree... I still can't understand how Pennant still can't make the team.
James F, Malaysia,
Michael M..Which game were you watching. Pennant doesn't play for either City or Rovers. You were, however watching the mighty Blackburn wipe the floor with City.It should have been 4 or 5 nil.
Rickyl, , Stockport, UK
McClaren has made a mistake not bringing in Pennant to the England Squad - he was brilliant on the left handside yesterday - not only cutting in on his right but also putting in several good crosses with his left.
mark, reading, uk
I hope the England manager McClaren watched this game. Pennant was superb.
