Eager not to be perceived as rewarding failure, Newcastle United are delaying contract negotiations with senior players. While Paul Huntington, the teenaged defender, is to sign a new deal stretching until 2010, despite his traumatic experience in the Uefa Cup last week where he was at fault for one goal as Newcastle crashed out to AZ Alkmaar, players such as Titus Bramble, Oguchi Onyewu and Craig Moore are unlikely to remain at the club.
Glenn Roeder, the manager, has previously intimated that Bramble might extend his five-year stay at St James’ Park, but planned talks with the former England Under21 central defender’s representatives did not take place this week and the mood has hardened after defeats by Alkmaar and Charlton Athletic.
Moore, the Australia defender, is expected to begin a new career in the Far East, while Newcastle are not minded to transform Onyewu’s loan spell from Standard Liãge into a permanent arrangement.
Antoine Sibierski, 32, recruited from Manchester City on a free transfer last summer, recently spoke of committing his future to the club, but Newcastle are insistent that a single-season deal is more appropriate than the two years the Frenchman is requesting.

What is Tony Dunn on about? Who are you comparing us to? How can you call us a Mickey Mouse club? 50000 week in week out! The problem of overpaid and under ambitious players is not restricted to Newcastle United alone. The Newcastle fans only ever want good players who want to play for the club. Unfortunately we don't get to choose who comes in. Next time your driving up the M6 to watch your local club why dont you give alex a ring and put in your wish list. I'm sure he'll pop straight out and get them.
P.Chisholm, Brisbane, ex Newcastle, Oz
Why would any decent players with footballing ambition, not bank balance ambition want to go to Newcastle ? Mickey Mouse club with massive support doesn't mean they will ever win anything. It's funny the way the fans say "we want him " "we need him".Only second rate players need apply.
Tony Dunn, London, UK
to even break into the top 6, we need to get rid of the likes of bramble, moore, babayaro, carr, ramage, luque, siberski as they are not the quality we are looking for. We need to break the bank and get woodgate back in a black and white shirt, also need a good partner for him, anton ferdinand maybe ok, curtis davies is better than what we have, then we have taylor, need to sign wayne bridge or leighton baines, then a right back maybe lucas neill or even micah richards if we could get him. defence is the key. One midfielder would be good, a goal scoring one, as we dont have one. Tim Cahill or Joey Barton would fit that bill. We still need 2 forwards in my view, so I would sign Dean Ashton and Dave Nuggent. These players are certainly better than what we have at the minute. If we could get Shaun Wright Phillips as well, am sure the season ahead would be a positive one, who is manager at this time, who knows, as I dont think Roeder is the man to take us forward!!

Newcastle to sell their defenders? What defenders?
Barrie Collins, Long Sault, Ontario
I dont understand this club's transfer policy. i really dont. They need a couple of good defenders and some solid back up. Is that so hard? When Upson and Neill became available why didnt they sign them? Onyewu? Wasnt he rejected by Fulham but as soon as it was rumoured that Chelsea were monitoring him, Newcastle jumped in. They only see the name, not the ability. Newcastle seem to think that if we want to be successful we have to follow the big clubs lead. Thats why their recent signings have all been cast-offs from the big clubs. They should follow Mark Hughes's lead, at least he has signed some proper players.
Rezwan, Dhaka,
the summer clearout should start with Roeder. get a good manager, for heaven's sake!
Peter H, Geneve,
im a man utd fan but have always noticed the passion and desire of newcastle to succed and challenge the best, its about time they started gettin rid of clowns like these and got players of the quality that the newcastle fans deserve

Lets face it, Newcastle are hopeless. Hopeless board. Hopeless manager. Hopeless squad of players. They will never be a big club.
