Kanu, the Portsmouth striker, has been linked with a move to the Australia this summer. Gold Coast Galaxy, a sister club to LA Galaxy, home of David Beckham, are awaiting a licence to join the Australian A League and Samuel Okoronkwo, Kanu’s agent,says they want to make him their star player.

“Kanu wants to play football and we would discuss Australia if things were not to work out with Portsmouth," Okoronkwo said,

The 31-year-old’s contract contains a clause that automatically extends the deal by a year if the striker makes 20 appearances this season. Kanu has already played 18 times this season for Pompey, although half of those were as a substitute and the prospect of first team football in Queensland could tempt him away.

The Nigerian international played against Bolton Wanderers last Saturday in Portsmouth’s 1-0 win, coming on as a substitute. after returning from a knee injury that he suffered in the opening game of the African Cup of Nations.

Kanu and the rest of the Portsmouth squad are currently on a four-day break in Spain ahead of their FA Cup Fifth Round tie against Preston North End at Deepdale.
