Tony Adams has described Younes Kaboul as "the future of the club".
Kaboul produced a man-of-the-match display in last Saturday's goalless draw at West Ham United, but the 22-year-old centre-half has placed much of the credit for his development on the Portsmouth manager and team-mate Sol Campbell.
Harry Redknapp signed the Frenchman from Tottenham Hotspur in August for £5 million and the former Auxerre defender has gradually enhanced his reputation after being labelled a flop at White Hart Lane.
"I have learned a lot from Tony here," Kaboul said. "When I was young I remember watching him on television with the England squad and Arsenal. Now he is my manager and I am also working alongside Sol and Sylvain Distin. It could not be a better education.
"Sometimes Tony stays with me after training and we work on my game. We work in the air, defending the goal-kicks, passing, everything, and that has improved me. I have never had that before - somebody who has stayed after training to work on me like that.
"I can learn from everyone here. Harry was like a dad and Tony is like a big brother.
"I'm enjoying every day here and I don't regret leaving Tottenham. It is a great club and I was fine with Martin Jol but when Juande Ramos came I had a problem and knew I had to leave."
Adams, who took over as manager at Fratton Park when Redknapp left to join Tottenham last month, is delighted with the defender's progress: "Younes has got it all there, he's an athlete and a young footballer learning his trade from people like Sol," he said. "That's wise and I'm glad he's learning and listening and that he's here. He could be the future of the football club."
