1973: Begins playing career at his hometown club Den Haag.
1976: Wins Dutch Cup with Den Haag.
1977: Transferred to German giants Bayern Munich.
1979: Returns to Holland with FC Twente.
1980: Makes Holland debut in 1-1 draw against West Germany.
1981: Moves to West Brom to fill void left by Bryan Robson's sale to Manchester United. Reaches the semi-finals of both the FA and League Cups but loses both. West Brom beaten by Tottenham over two legs in the League Cup.
1984: Moves to Coventry.
1985: Returns to end his playing career with a successful second stint at Den Haag.
1991: Begins coaching career at amateur side ADO Den Haag and leads them to two promotions in three years.
1995: Coaches Scheveningen, who are crowned Dutch non-league champions.
1996: Takes over at Roda JC.
1997: Roda win the Dutch Cup, their first trophy in 30 years.
1998: Moves to RKC Waalwijk and transforms club from relegation candidates to European challengers on a limited budget.
2001: Named Dutch Football Writers' Coach of the Year.
2002: Named Dutch players' and coaches' Coach of the Year.
2003: September - Claims he has been approached by Sir Alex Ferguson with a view to succeeding Carlos Queiroz as Ferguson's number two at Old Trafford.
2004: Moves to Tottenham as first assistant to head coach Jacques Santini.
November 5 - Santini stands down and Jol is asked to take charge of first-team affairs for Premier League game against Charlton.
November 8 - Jol announced as new Spurs head coach at start of club's AGM.
December - Named Premier League Manager of the Month.
2005: August - Signs new three-year deal with Tottenham.
2006: May - Spurs finish fifth in the league, securing UEFA Cup football for the first time in the Premier League era. Fourth place - and Champions League football - lost on the final day of the season when a Tottenham side weakened by illness loses and Arsenal win.
2007: Despite losing influential midfielder Michael Carrick to Manchester United, Spurs finish fifth for a second consecutive season as well as reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup and last eight in both the UEFA Cup and Carling Cup.
June: Spurs splash around £16million on record signing Darren Bent.
August - A poor start to the 2007-08 season sees Jol hold talks with Daniel Levy after the Spurs chairman met Sevilla boss Juande Ramos.
Aug 21: Details of a meeting between Jol, chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Damien Comolli are revealed on the club's website with the manager reminded that he is expected to deliver Champions League football.
October 22: A 3-1 defeat to Newcastle keeps Jol's men rooted in the bottom three and there is further drama when star striker Dimitar Berbatov is reluctant to warm up after being left on the bench.
Oct 25: Tottenham confirm they have asked Jol to stand down as manager with immediate effect.
