Dimitar Berbatov, the Tottenham Hotspur striker, says he is starting to be affected by continued speculation over his future. The Bulgarian international has been linked recently with moves to both Chelsea and Manchester United, with Tottenham placing a £30million transfer fee on his head.
"It's getting absurd," Berbatov said. "I'm fed up of seeing my name in the papers all the time. I think the papers went too far. It's obvious that the speculation will continue to the end but I wish the press would leave me alone. I just want to play my game.
"The worst thing is that I see 'my' quotes which I've never said and it's something that makes me feel bad."
Berbatov scored 23 goals for Tottenham last season and has netted another 13 this campaign, making him a huge favourite with Spurs fans. But the 26-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9m last season, believes his price tag, is vastly inflated.
"Such hysteria seems to me stupid, I'm not worth so much money," he said. "I'm happy at the moment, we'll see what will happen. I know I can win trophies with Spurs.
"We (Spurs) are working to correct our mistakes and I think (coach) Juande Ramos is the man who can change things. He's very good as a man and as an expert, he can see details which are hidden from other people's view."
Last month Emil Dantchev, Berbatov's agent, declared: "Fans must understand that Dimitar is 27 next month and time is running out for him to play for a club that can match his ambition."
