Is Redknapp the right man for Tottenham?
Is Redknapp a Portsmouth hero or villain?
Harry Redknapp, the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, has refused to rule out attempting to sign some of Portsmouth's top players when the transfer window re-opens in January.
As Portsmouth supporters come to terms with the news of Redknapp's sudden departure, they may now also face the prospect of losing some of the club's best players, with Tottenham, who are reportedly willing to give Redknapp £20million to spend in January, known to be ready to bolster the squad.
"If Portsmouth want to sell one or two, then we would be in for them just as any other club in the Premier League would be," Redknapp said. "They have some fantastic players there.
"But it would be Portsmouth's decision if they wanted to sell. The Tottenham chairman knows the team needs strengthening in one or two areas and that is something we will look at it January.
"There are good players here and we will look at the areas we need to improve. You never know. If Defoe came up for sale I'd be interested. Crouch is a very good player, but anything is possible."
Redknapp was also asked if he might attempt to hijack David Beckham's move to AC Milan, but instead chose to show faith in his current crop of players.
"It sounds like a good idea doesn't it?," Redknapp said. "No, I’ve got David Bentley, he’s fantastic. I think he hasn't shown what he's capable of in the last couple of weeks. But I think he's a fantastic talent so hopefully he'll start playing and really show everyone what he can do."
