Can you match the manager with the mutt?
Jose Mourinho's pet dog was on the run in London today, after its master was arrested and received a police caution in a row over its quarantine status.
It is understood that Mourinho dashed away from his club's player-of-the-year awards ceremony in Battersea Park, South London, last night after his wife, Tami, called to say that the dog was being taken away. The Sun newspaper claims that officials wanted to put the dog into quarantine, fearing that it had been taken abroad and back without the necessary injections.
The Chelsea manager insisted today that the Yorkshire terrier has had all the "necessary inoculations".
The Sun reported that Mourinho arrived home to his rented Belgravia house at 9pm to find an animal welfare officer and two police officers. What was reportedly a heated argument ensued, in which tempers became frayed and tears were shed, it said.
Mourinho is alleged to have bundled the dog out of the house, away from police. He was taken to a West London police station and given a caution for obstructing officers.
Today Mourinho's spokesman said: "Jose Mourinho can confirm that he was cautioned by police, and released without charge earlier this morning after an incident involving his pet dog.
"The incident occurred due to a misunderstanding over documents required for veterinary regulations.
"Mr Mourinho would like to make it clear that his pet dog was bought in England from a reputable breeder and has had all its necessary inoculations. Full co-operation will be given to the authorities over any animal health issues."
A Scotland Yard spokesman said that officers went to an address in central London at 7.45pm yesterday with an official from the City of London's animal health and welfare service, to seize a dog in connection with alleged offences under the Animal Health Act of 1981 and the Rabies Order Act of 1974.
The spokesman added that officers discussed the removal of the animal from the address in Belgravia with the owners.
"A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and was taken to a West London police station," the spokesman said. "He subsequently received a caution for obstructing police."
The police officers had accompanied the animal welfare officer to Mr Mourinho's Belgravia address at the request of the City of London animal health and welfare service, the spokesman told Times Online.
"I don't know if it is normal to send officers along on this kind of case, but we do do it for them, just as we accompany bailiffs enacting warrants of the court," said the police spokesman.
"It is always our job to ensure there is no breach of the peace. It's the animal welfare service's job to ensure public health and safety."
The whereabouts of the dog were still unclear this evening. "We are not as far as I'm aware conducting an active search for the dog," said the police spokesman. Westminster City Council later confirmed that its dog warden was searching for Mourinho’s pet, which is believed to be still at large.
Councillor Alan Bradley, cabinet member for street environment, said: "We are concerned for the welfare of any stray animal in a busy area like Westminster. Pets are part of the family for a lot of people and we hope Mr Mourinho’s will be found soon."
Mourinho is preparing for Saturday's FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at the new Wembley stadium. Ladbrokes, the bookmaker, said the dog is 100/1 to appear with the Chelsea boss in the dugout at the match.
Under the pet travel scheme, British pets can travel abroad without being put into quarantine on their return only if they are microchipped, vaccinated against rabies and have had a blood test to show that the inoculation has been effective. The pet must also have a valid EU pet passport, or veterinary certificate if they are travelling to a non-EU country.
The rules state that the pet must be given worming and anti-tick treatments between 24 and 48 hours before its return to Britain, and must travel with an authorised transport firm. If the pet has not met any of the requirements, it must spend six months in quarantine.
The travel scheme was introduced after pressure from pet-owners and animal groups, who argued that the quarantine system had caused suffering to animals with almost no cases of rabies being found.

Yes, definately more of those ludicrous arrests that were mentioned recently

Its patently clear that the authorities have intrigued to cause this
pain and inconvenience to the Chelsea Gaffer. The police and health officials must shoulder the entire blame for not discussing the case with JM and his family.
The tactics emoployed to go to his home when it was known beforehand that he would
not be there is typical of the style used by such organisations. A dog is a member of the family in any British home, and for the police to come and remove
a family member obviously not a criminal , without discussion is the height of
stupidity. Treaty JM and his family as if they were terrorists is absurd and shows that
partisan football support is somehow involved here in what looks like
police persecution. I hope that someone in a high place has to resign
because of this.

As a Chelsea fan all i can do i laugh, so we have people getting mugged on the street but no police in sight yet they can turn up a Jose house for a dog, a little yorkie 20 pounds at most in weight. So now we pay tax to have our police officers arrest Premiership managers over a harmless dog.
I bet they soon try and arrest Arsene for having a french poodle as his next bright youngster!!!!!!!!
Kitson, London,
Good point Jeremy! But I have one completely different thig to say about this article: WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE!!!" To be perfectly honest who really cares if Jose Marinho's lost his dog?! Aren't there more important matters in our world?
Jenny, Skipton, Yorkshire
This is what comes from living in Mr Browns Authoritarian Police State. Unless you are liable to commit a proper crime, and then you are free to go, otherwise you are all guilty and its only a matter of time be for you get hauled in.
A caution is still a criminal record.
Ian B, Reading,
Mourinho will probably tell the police that they can take the dog, only after Saturdays cup final, as we all know he is short of players and maybe the dog can help him out by sitting on the bench.
Never mind Jose you won't have that problem on Wednesday in Athens, because Liverpool knocked you out. So much for the special one!
Tony Bleasdale, Liverpool,
Are nt our policemen wonderful ? Another dastardly criminal thwarted in the commission of a desperate crime.
Rick, London, England
Mourinho seem to think that he is above the law, and that just because he manages a big club he can ignore our rabies regulations. Mad dogs and Portoguese?
kerry livermore, London, England,
I think the police are barking up the wrong tree here. Perhaps they just want to 'up' their figures
Jason Jones, London,
I thing is an stupid problem for such minor thing. Does English Police do not have more important problems than Mourinhos's dog? Pls. ridiculous. Go on Jose !!!

The incident of the dog in the mid of the night ? It must have been the special one!

A spokesman for the Yorkie was reportedly to have said 'Woof woof woof bark bark growl'
kirk, Rotherham, UK
I called up Belgravia police station to complain about this- its a ridiculous waste of money and police time. How much taxpayers money has been spent on this fiasco?
I pay tax in this country and when recently someone threatened to break into my house and possibly disturb me and my partner- the police did nothing about it. Nothing.
John, London, UK
It is rumoured that that there was a breakdown in communication due to language difficulties. It was thought that Fido had been signed outside of the transfer window and Maureenio had thought that the police were after Drogbah and not a barking dog.
Glyn Rees, oxford, oxon
Don't they find stranger that the police officer has gone to house of the Mourinho in the day of the delivery of the prizes?
Everything seems to me organized to blacken his image.
there was need of so many din because of such a small thing.
If I was going to him it was accepting Madrid went because in england it wanders they all are very much occupied forgetting what he did for your football and for the Chelsea in special.
Tania Andrade, oporto, portugal
who would have thought it....Mourinho with a yorkie....bet he gets a lot of laughs when he takes his dog out in the evening....
andy, london,
2 questions:
Firstly where is said mutt, who has supposed to have gone missing? Anyone tried looking in the Mourinho's laundry basket? That approach apparently has a bit of previous, when things have been mislaid.
Secondly. Who shopped the family? In cup final week of all weeks - Who raised the alarm in the first instance?
Could it possibly have been a public spirited Christiano Ronaldo travelling back to his homeland on the same flight as the Mourinho's saving the rest of us from a potential rabies case?
