Mido should sign for Birmingham City in a £6 million deal next week after Tottenham Hotspur agreed to sell the Egypt striker rather than loan him out for a year. The 24-year-old still has to agree personal terms, however, and it is understood that he may ask for an escape clause if Birmingham are relegated from the Barclays Premier League next season.
“We’ve been chasing him for a while and we started off negotiating a loan,” Bruce said. “He’s a top player and quite a character. He’s of the right age and I think the Birmingham fans will love him.”
Bruce, who also hopes to complete the £3 million acquisition of Hossam Ghaly, Mido’s compatriot, from Tottenham this weekend, helped to offset the outlay when DJ Campbell joined Leicester City for an initial fee of £1.6 million yesterday. The striker is reunited with Martin Allen, the Leicester manager, who bought him two years ago while at Brentford.

For a player that made so few starts and scored so few goals last season 6 million is a good price for Spurs. Allied to that the fact that Mido has played for over 6 clubs in the last 6ish years - he is a risk at 6 million.
On ther hand similar things could have been said about Robbie Keans a few seasons ago - but now he's vrtually indespensible. I loke Mido, but on balance I think 6 million is good business for Spurs

I don't think we ever saw the best of either player at Spurs. Mido, especially, started like a house on fire with two goals on debut but then struggled with weight and injuries. If he grows up quickly he could be a star. Ghaly will never be forgiven by Spurs fans for showing disrespect to the shirt, but he is a versatile, talented player with an eye for goal. I'd like to see them do well.

Ghaly actually cost Spurs around £2.5 million, he was not a free transfer. Mido has been a good player for Spurs, I'll be sorry to see him go. He had a great first season with us but struggled with injuries last season. He will well at Birmingham, he always gives 100% and hes a good character. Ghaly is also a fairly good player, given a run he should do well.

Jimmy...we paid 6m for Mido (1.5m loan fee for 18 months and then 4.5m for permanent transfer) and Ghaly wasn't a free transfer.
Both came and did a job for THFC. Especially Mido. I think both could and probably should play for better clubs than Birmingham.
I wish them both well...if the transfers actually happen. I could see a better team coming in for Mido. Blackburn or Everton perhaps?

If Bruce can get his head right Mido will be an excellent signing. As for good business 17m for Bent ?

mike65, waterford,
£9 million for two hot headed Egyptians who have no respect for our club? Great business Spurs. We bought Mido for £3.5m and Ghaly was a free transfer, good profit too. Now we can use that money to buy Martin Petrov and Wesley Sneijder!!
