Bobby Williamson, the former Heart of Midlothian and Kilmarnock manager, has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Uganda national team.

The 47-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the task of leading the African minnows to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Williamson, more recently in charge of Plymouth Argyle and Chester City, said: “I am happy to start a new life in Africa.”

Ajax yesterday announced the signing of Evander Sno, the Celtic midfield player, on a three-year contract. The 21-year-old returns to his native Holland after two seasons at Celtic Park, in which he was unable to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Sno – a product of the Ajax youth system – joined Celtic from Feyenoord in the summer of 2006, having starred on loan at NAC Breda.

But the Holland Under21 international, who represented his country during the Olympic Games football tournament in Beijing, was unable to live up to his vast promise with the Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions.

Most of his 49 appearances came from the bench and he managed only one goal for the club.
