Fernando Alonso insists he is "quite comfortable" with his decision to quit Renault at the end of 2006 to make his ill-fated move to McLaren.
Alonso left Renault having claimed the drivers' championship in 2005 and 2006 and was widely tipped to seal a hat-trick of titles at Ron Dennis' McLaren squad. However, Alonso's relationship with Dennis quickly soured, with the Spaniard unhappy over what he perceived to favouritism towards Lewis Hamilton within the British team.
The 26-year-old last week severed ties with McLaren just 12 months into a three-year deal after finishing third in the title race behind Hamilton and Ferrari's new world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
"This year I had the opportunity to win the championship again, so from that point of view the switch [from Renault] was a good decision," Alonso said. "The team did a fantastic job to have a competitive car so I was able to fight until the last race and finished only one point behind the champion. So, in that respect, I think it has been a very positive season."
While Alonso's year was blighted by controversy, he nevertheless believes he will reflect on his 2007 campaign with a number of happy memories. "Outside the car for sure we had some ups and downs, better moments and worse moments, but I think this happens in every job," he said. "I will remember this year for my four victories I had in important places, where I had not won before, like Monza, and Monaco again for a second time."
Alonso revealed that he would not to dwell on the reasons for his championship defeat as he weighs up his options for next season - which include a return to Renault. "For every driver, when we lose a championship we start thinking about why we lost," he said. "But we lost, so there is nothing more we can do. It's history.
"The future is the place where you can change things - and the future already has begun. Looking back over my shoulder, I feel quite comfortable.
"Did we lose the championship due to strategic mistakes? Well, a championship is not lost in a single race so there are many reasons why we did not win.
"Hopefully for next year I've learnt some lessons and I'll try again."

In fact my Spanish friends, Alonso lost the championship in Japan when he crashed out .Mclaren gave him a car with 100% reliability, but lost the championship due to both drivers making errors.

alonso is the best apart of the team where he is

Pablo, sorry to disapoint you...He said that, but in a different way.
Read this:
Alonso believes there are numerous reasons he lost the title to Kimi Raikkonen.
âIn Hungary I had a penalty, in Japan I didnât finish the race after the crash, in Canada I was seventh, in Magny Cours seventh, so for sure I didnât arrive in Brazil with enough points to be sure of winning the championship,â he said.
He CANNOT say anything against his ex-team or ex-teammate (but Lewis can blame Fernando in his biography whatever he wants)
McLaren and Lewis is the past. That´s what he said.
And that´s a good point. What Ron and Lewis do next season is not our problem now. Someone else will sufer and will understand about the well-know "equality"
John, Grenade,
Politics and diplomacy aside, all we know that Alonso would have been champion even before the last race, had McLaren wanted it instead of favouring Hamilton. As Ron Dennis said: " we were not racing Kimi, we were racing Fernando".... Grate!! .... Very well done!! .... Now Kimi is champion and Fernando has lost for one point... It is hardly surprising that he quit from McLaren, eventhough renouncing a very good car.

Alosno said as well in this interview, that he lost his championship in Hungrary... (i read it in the spanish newspapers), why you do not say that in your article.
Cause if Hamilton shut up his mouth in Hungrary for a
stupid internal problem in Mclaren (like in Monaco), then
FA would be the champion with Mclaren.
But the thing is that LH wants to win at any price and make money (commercials, biography with only 22year and 1
year in F-1, i cannot wait for the part2 next year of his biography) as soon as possible, and nobody cannot stop him about that, even his team mate (two times champion).
And Mclaren was happy with that cause they prefer a british
champion in Mclaren.
We will see where is Hamilton in F1 next year, maybe he will have to write stories for kids instead of another biography.
