Alain Prost, the four-time Formula One world champion, believes Lewis Hamilton will use the experience of last year's narrow defeat to inspire him to the drivers' championship this season.
The 23-year-old Englishman led the championship for the majority of last season, but was eventually pipped to the title by Kimi Raikkonen, the Ferrari driver, who took advantage of Hamilton's mechanical problems to snatch victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix by one point.
However, Prost, who won 51 Grand Prix races, believes the experience will only strengthen Hamilton's resolve tp come back stronger.
"I think Lewis will be the top guy," he said. "If he has a good car, I don't think it should be a problem. He has more experience now. We are going to see how he is going to handle this extra pressure."
"I lost the championship in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 by a few points and at one time, I said to myself it must be that I cannot win the championship - and then I won it four times later on. If you have everything together, you have plenty of time."
Prost predicted Hamilton's closest title challengers would once again come from Ferrari, who won the constructors' championship, and Renault, who will be spearheaded by Hamilton's former teammate Fernando Alonso.
"The Ferrari will always be there, so we don't know about Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa - it depends on whether Kimi has the same motivation or not," he said. "Fernando Alonso will be just a little bit behind, but quite close."
The Formula 1 season gets underway in Melbourne on March 16.

I am puzzled as to why the people from F1 we see on TV and read about in the press become the subject of extreme rancour or extreme adulation. F1 is both a sport and a hi-tech entertainment that travels the world and the characters starring in this circus appear as the media defines them, not, perhaps, as they really are. Katie, you cannot be a real F1 fan, as they generally at least try to be fair-minded and separate the sport from the circus. Could you please offer some proof (not an opinion) as to why LH and his father are 'poor minded' and bad, bad people and why Ron Dennis 'deserves the worst' - I have seen or heard no real evidence that support your assertions.
As a parent, I started my son in motorcycle racing at age 12, first in MX then in road racing. As a consequence, we became very close as father and son, so I empathise with Hamilton snr, admire the sacrifices he has made so his son can acheive his potential and can understand their close relationship.

Alain Prost pretty much stated the obvious. Hamilton, Raikkonen, and Alonso are the most fancied drivers for the
championship. He gave his opinion, and as a four time
world champion, does know what he is talking about.
His point that Alonso would be 'quite close' confirms that
even the experts believe that Renault will not be that far
off the pace, and ofcourse we all know that Kimi Raikkonen
will fight tooth and nail to reclaim his title.
As always, Lewis Hamilton's year will be based on just
how good his car is opposed to the other drivers. That applies
to everybody, but if the car is like a 2002 Mclaren for instance,
then he'll be eating dust.
I suspect Renault and Alonso maybe sandbagging, and
BMW Sauber cannot be overlooked and have two very quick
drivers on their team.
Nico Rosberg, Kovalainen, and Timo Glock are also drivers
who could have a big impact this season.

More hype for Lewis won't do him any good. They should try some reverse psychology, like "He blew it last year, showing that he wasn't ready."
Maybe that would give him the drive to do better this year. But whispering into his ear how good he is a recipe for disaster, as we all witnessed last year.

Prost say that Hamilton is going to win this year because he played with Mclaren, but everyone knows that Hamilton will never be a champion, because he is not ready, he has weak mind and make big mistakes, he will never learn to do OK. He was borned in Mclaren, he is in there from he was 14 years old, and he lost his oportunity, he is a looser and he will be always. He and more his father are very poor of mind and bad bad person, the same as Ron DEnnis, he desrve the worst, i can't understand, how somebody can apologize him, is his fault that Mclaren lost last year. Bad people.
