Straight from the oven: Kimi Raikkonen
The Iceman is sizzling. He may have won a world title that looked to be heading McLaren’s way, but the Finn has barely put a foot wrong since. He has been super-quick in pre-season, the car is hot and he is the champion.
Race rating: Another title beckons
Nicely warmed up: Lewis Hamilton
After a remarkable debut season, he should be leading the charge for McLaren. More experience, lots of confidence and an abundance of natural talent is a recipe for success. But is the car good enough?
Race rating: Back in the trophies
Room temperature: Felipe Massa
His fans believe that the Brazilian has what it takes to win the title and that only misfortune deprived him of a tilt at it last year. Others cannot see past Raikkonen at Ferrari and think that the die has been cast in favour of the Finn.
Race rating: Still fighting
Lukewarm leftovers: Fernando Alonso
His glory days are behind him for now. A difficult season in what is likely to be a less
than competitive Renault awaits. All his talent and determination may not be enough to overcome the performance deficit he faces.
Race rating: Struggling for podium finishes
Congealing on the plate: Toyota and Honda
Another nothing season for one of the biggest-spending teams looks on the cards for Toyota. Sadly for them there is only one Ross Brawn to go round and Honda have got him for now — and, boy, do they need him.
Race rating: Making up the numbers
Scraped into the bin: Ralf Schumacher and driver aids
The former is in an old car in DTM racing, which is arguably where he belongs; the latter have rightly been confined to the dustbin of history.
Race rating: Stuck in the pits

Hamilton was asking for traction control to be removed last season.
You can see why this year.
Some drivers are fast on the straight but seem to misjudge corners quite badly.
Hamilton goes serenely on, which must infuriate the nay-sayers.
He has an unfair advantage, it's called skill - let's put traction control back on, eh?
Bouch, Llanharan, Wales
Granted, Hamilton is a very talented driver. No question about that. But then again, he drives the best car in the entire grid. In Australia he was position one for the whole of the race which meant he had to stick to a good rythym (no risky or difficult overtaking in the equation).
Time and time again I wonder why there isn´t one IDENTICAL car for the entire grid. If this were the case, driving skills or the lack of them would clearly show who can really drive. But then again, F1 is set to serve the interests of Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW with their massive budgets.
John, Torrelavega, Spain
lukewarm for alonso? finishing 4º with a car that is less competitive than a toro rosso? have you seen the double overtake to kovalainen and kimi?? i think you will never forget his mclaren season...
