Padraig Harrington made a tap-in eagle at the final hole to take a share of the lead after the second round at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament in Miyazaki today.
The defending champion struck a five-wood to three feet at the par-five 18th before carding a five-under-par 65 on another day of ideal conditions at Phoenix Country Club.
The Irishman joined Ian Poulter at seven-under after the Englishman hit 68, putting him one stroke ahead of Finland's Mikko Ilonen and Shingo Katayama and Daisuke Marayama, both of Japan. Luke Donald is in a group one stroke further back.
Harrington lost his cool after a bad start that included a bogey at the second hole but regained perspective thanks to a lecture from his caddie.
"I was getting frustrated and losing patience," he said. "My caddie had a stern talk with me. He was at pains to point out that we had only played 22 holes and there were 50 holes to go. After that I made some birdies, got right into the thick of things."
Ryo Ishikawa, the 16-year-old amateur, shot a respectable 68 to improve to equal-30th, seven strokes off the lead.
