Mark Brown produced a stunning late run of birdies to win the Johnnie Walker Classic in India. The New Zealander picked up four shots in the last seven holes of his final round, to catch Taichiro Kiyota and claim him his second win in two weeks.
The 33-year-old’s round of 67 included seven birdies as he ended on 18-under for the Delhi tournament.
Graeme Storm was the top British player after carding a 69 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth on 14-under with local favourite Shiv Kapur (68) and Sweden's Johan Edfors (65).
Brown, who began the day one stroke behind Kiyota, overcame a front nine in which he picked up two bogeys to claim victory.
"I played terribly on the front side," he said. "I don't think I hit a fairway or green and got to the 10th and said to myself 'let's have a solid nine holes', and the birdies started falling. The rest is a dream."
Brown produced some wonderful golf on the back nine, making four consecutive birdies from the 12th to the 15th to take full advantage of his rivals’ faltering form.
However, Brown appeared to have blown his chance of victory on the 18th when his second shot to the par five appeared to heading for the water. Somehow, it cleared the hazard and Brown putted out to take the title.
"It's the worst shot I've hit since I was 14!” he said. “Totally out of the heel and so thin and I thought it was completely in the water. But luckily I had plenty of club with a six iron and it must have just scraped over. It was quite a relief after that."
Having taken a three-year break from professional golf before resuming his career on the Asian Tour last year, Brown was understandably delighted to secure a full exemption on the European Tour.
"It's a dream come through. I've worked really hard the last year and a half and my coach, Mal Tongue, has been a tremendous support in my career. It's been a blur in the last two weeks."
