Justin, I was interested to see that you chose to practice at The Berkshire – is that due to the quality of the greens there? Best of luck at Torrey Pines, by the way. James Haworth-Booth.
Justin Rose: The Berkshire is one of my favourite courses and I love the Red course with its six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s. But when I was there the other day I used the practice range only. I didn't do any short game work at all.
I am a 15 handicap golfer and I use an r7 regular shafted 10.5 degree driver. I sometimes have problems getting distance with my drives. Any advice? Stephen Johnson
Justin Rose: Take the head cover off! Seriously, to hit the ball further I suggest you widen your stance and swing your arms faster if you can. But you might need to use a newer driver. I have found that by switching from TaylorMade r7 to the SuperQuad I have gained another ten yards.
Where does the US Open rate for you in terms of the other majors? Ben Moulson, Bradford.
Justin Rose: After today, bottom of the pile! No, I'm joking. I rank the majors as follows: the British, the Masters, the US Open and the US PGA. For a British player, the Open is the most important. It is the championship of our country.
Do you think the USGA have gone too far in how far they go to punish anything off line at the US Open? Do you think they are determined not to allow players to go under par? All the best this week. Roger Johnson, Weybridge
Justin Rose: I think the USGA went too far at Winged Foot in 2006 and Oakmont last year. The winning score at Oakmont was five over par. I didn't like the way that if any shot was off target you had a hack back to the fairway. This week they have showed their versatility by using different tees such as on the short 3rd, which was playing at a little over 140 yards yet is down on the card as 190. They moved the tees forward at the 13th and the 18th, too. That gave us a chance.
Do you think the American pros still place more importance on their "Open", than they do on the Open Championship and does the US version come close to the "original" for you? Daniel Guest, Ipswich
Justin Rose: They do place more importance on their Open than on ours. You can tell that by the way they talk about "the Open" meaning the US Open and call ours "the British Open". I understand that. For them their Open is their main championship.
