Nothing symbolises the popularity of Severiano Ballesteros more than the effect that the news that he was in hospital in Madrid has had on golf fans in Britain and Ireland. Wherever you go the one subject under discussion is: “What’s wrong with Seve?”
It is of far greater concern to most golfers than Europe’s defeat by the US in last month’s Ryder Cup, or Nick Faldo’s captaincy.
In short, Ballesteros has the status of a true sporting hero in Britain. And this devotion to a man born on the north coast of Spain in April 1957 is returned by him tenfold. Ballesteros has often said that his true fans are those in Britain, those who know how to play the game, who appreciate what he is doing and how he is doing it.
Ballesteros put the pride back into European golf, proving it could be the best in the world. Tony Jacklin, the Englishman, became the first European since the Second World War to make a serious impression by winning two major championships in 1969 and 1970, but Ballesteros led the next generation, winning his first major championship, the Open, in 1979, and his fifth, the Open, in 1988.
The British golfers Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam all followed in winning majors, as did Bernhard Langer, the German.
“At his best, Seve was the best, and the man who did more for golf than anyone else in Europe,” Jacklin said. “He was our Arnold Palmer and people just love to see him play. That is why in his current situation there is so much support for him.”

I've always seen british press as a model in terms of information.I've always admired how british people admire our Seve, more than many of my compatriots do.Seve's dramatic illness confirmed both. This is not a criticism, just a recognition from a Spanish whose golf hero is the same one as yours:Seve.

"Unconditional love is the fragrance a violet spreads on the heel that crushes it". And I KNOW that you will, in your ever charismatic and joyful way, spread your love on the 'heel' of this tumour that is attempting to crush you. You WILL rise, Seve, to the new destiny that awaits you as peacemaker.
Pami Singh, Pittsburgh, USA
You shall pull through Seve. You were the greatest golf player and moreso a Gentleman who did so much for the sport. A crying shame your contrymen never will understand what your name represents. No wonder he has never grown tired of letting the world know of his love for Britain across the years.
GoSeve, london, UK

fernando, Santander, Spain
Also for me Seve was a hero on the course, I watched many tournaments hoping he'd win them and saw quite a few where he did, always with an air of excitement and with some or other special shot that he willed into place, giving us that famous grin when he achieved his little miracles. Get well soon!

U are the greatest at Golf, I wish u a successful operation and a Speedy recovery
Pramukh, Aacramento, CA, USA
Seve is the player I grew up watching on TV from the mid seventies onwards. A chartacter of true grit who always gave 100%, could not help showing passion and determination - something that appears to be missing from a lot of todays "cream of the crop". I can only help he makes a full recovery soon.
