Ricky Hatton vowed to prove himself the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world as he traded verbal blows with Floyd Mayweather Jnr ahead of their WBC welterweight title fight on December 8.
The two undefeated boxers clash in one of the most eagerly-anticipated fights of the year at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the hype has already begun. The pair took turns to disrespect each other as they met for a news conference in Los Angeles to promote their upcoming contest.
Hatton, the IBF light-welterweight champion, first played a video which poked fun at Mayweather for taking dancing lessons in preparation for his upcoming appearance on the hit TV show Dancing with the Stars. "He is doing the show Dancing with the Stars and I think that's how he is boxing," Hatton said. "Floyd always backs up. That's the woman part."
Hatton then joined the conference wearing a golden crown on his head which Mayweather promptly snatched away from him. "I am glad he took it, because it looks more like Burger King than like a champion," Hatton said.
Known as a big showman, the 30-year-old Mayweather stepped forward to Hatton during the conference, faced him and talked straight into his face. Hatton, 28, just chewed his gum without saying a word.
"Talk to me, talk to me," Mayweather said to his opponent before calling him "Vicky Fatten" and intimating that Hatton should be a wrestler instead of a boxer.
Mayweather, wearing a £1,500 suit, then talked about all his projects, including his own promotion company, his appearance on Dancing with the Stars and his new energy drink. After showing some off dancing steps with his partner, Mayweather had some advice for Hatton. "You'll get a big pay cheque, and when I am done with you I'll collect more and more in the future because I am the best in the world," he said.
Mayweather is a six-time world champion in five weight divisions, including super-featherweight, lightweight, super-lightweight, welterweight and super-welterweight. Now unbeaten in 38 fights, he showed his extraordinary skills when he defeated Oscar de la Hoya in May.
The biggest fight of Hatton's career is already setting records, as tickets in Las Vegas were sold out in 35 minutes. "I am proud of this, but very sorry for all my fans, because they sent only 3,900 tickets to the UK," Hatton said. "And 10,000 people always follow my fights and most of them won't get a ticket."
To appease fans left without tickets, MGM will set up roughly 50,000 seats for big-screen coverage throughout their other hotels in Las Vegas. Tickets will be roughly £100 and most will go to British fans, as the Hatton camp have stated already that 15,000 fans have booked flights and hotels for the fight weekend.

This fight reminds me a little bit of marvin hagler vs sugar ray leonard. Speed versus puncher. You have to admire the determination of hatton. I hear he has a freak workout ethic so in this preperation will show in the ring. He might be posessed any body can lose. Buster douglas beat Mike tyson and even the invincible Roy jones lost, So just maybe. Who knows.

Ricky to get severely hammered...he's no match for the powerful and skilful Mayweather...hurrah come on Floyd

i trust ricky and this fight will prove a great one to mayweather.

jay, london,
this is a fight that will much resemble leonard and duran. you got power vs. speed. mayweather will be on his bicycle for most of the bout, peppering hatton with arm punches. if hatton can cut off the ring and work his angles (hatton is great @ opening holes and punishing the body) and apply his power, mayweather is going to sleep. period.

If Hatton catches him and uses his work rate it will be a tough night for Mayweather... can he handle the power? But logic says Mayweather will run like a girl and tickle him with fast hands, no power......
Reckon Mayweather on points through running, unless Hatton sits him on the ropes all night and wears him out.

Speed vs. Power. Speed will understimate the speed of the power and the power will control the speed. Hatton is a ferocious fighter that will not stop unless he dies. Mayweather doesn't possess that quality. Hatton is a lion that will destroy the pitbull.

hattons going to get beaten, all of his previous opponents have been handpicked, all the fighters of note he has beaten have been way past their prime.
paul lomas, manchester, england
Hatton will be eating his fish and chips through a straw and speaking ebonics when Mayweather is done with him.

All of Mayweather,s fans, do your home work and believe that Mayweather's time for defeat is near, coming from the hands of another undefeated fighter. You have taken lightly a very skilled fighter:
Mike Green, Las Vegas, Nevada
Hatton is a fighter to the end ,he just fights and fights , never surrenders ,do not underestimate ,you have been warned, George.
George Toplis, Tansley Matlock, Derbyshire .uk.
its all over

Hatton will lose. Mayweather in pretty much incredible. If Fatton was smart, he would just stay away. Then again, to lose and make millions isn't so bad afterall.

If we look back over boxing history it is usually the people's champion who gets beat. well let me tell you all that is going to change come Dec 8th. im not disregarding floyds talents but tell me wo is going to beat the hitman in his prime?Answer Ricky himself, an he ain't ready to do that yet.Verdict Hatton points win (even in America!)
mr T, sunderlnd,
i think hatton will win hes the best and if he wins he should fight de la hoya

I'm a big boxing fan and an ever bigger Hatton fan. I can give much of my own logic as to why I believe Ricky will win this fight, but I won't. I'll keep it simple. Every dog has his day and I believe on Dec 8th it'll be Floyd's! Hatton vs. Mayweather is like good vs. evil. What better way for the most arragant fighter (whose talent I do respect!) in the sport to be humbled buy the people's Champ!!!

I think Ricky might upset the odds on this one. Mayweather has never been caught with a quality body shot similar to the one Hatton landed on Castillo to stop that fight. There may be an issue with styles for Ricky, there is no better defensive boxer in the game than Mayweather, we'll see. I don't think Floyd has the power to knock Ricky out, but he does have the ability to dance, stick, move and lure him on to flurries that will make Floyd look good to the judges. My opinion is he never won the fight against De La Hoya, he did however convince the judges because of his style. This if anything will be Ricky's undoing. Verdict: Hatton by K.O. Round 3!

I definately think this will have an effect on future attendances in vegas by genuine Hatton fans. Who or what ever is behind this ticket farce needs to be sorted out and fast.
Robert , Manchester Stalybridge, England
I think the ticket situation is a total disgrace, both camps new from the start was was going to happen, and 3900 going to a ballot over here, they should be ashamed of themselves, i spoke to a person from ticketmaster.com on monday and he told me there was not ONE ticket available to the general public.. I see Beckham has got his ticket, i wonder what ballot he won his from, and how many Hatton fights has he been to this year.. i have spent well over 4 grand this year going to Vegast to watch Hatton, but he wont get another penny from me or any of my mates from now on,
Steve, Manchester,
You want to ask Team Hatton what it did with the 3,900 Tickets - Punch Promotions are not wanting to discuss how many want into the Ballot and how many went to VIP Corp Packages, sad fact Ticketmaster US has NO Tickets avaialble at 18:01hrs, yet all the Casino on the Strip are selling packages (hotel's + ticket $150) for nearly $3,000
Blackice, Manchester,
Hatton will destroy him. British steel at its best
Max, London,
wow what a fight.im a hatton and mayweather fan so im just gonna sit back and enjoy the sport.
