2 for 1 tickets to Casablanca, this coming Monday
If David Beckham wins his 100th cap against France on Wednesday, it proves the FA is obsessed with celebrity and commercial money-making strategies rather than winning matches.
Douglas J Wathen, Evesham
Last week’s Don’t Miss feature said Charlton had been ‘climbing the table recently and harbour hopes of promotion’. If ‘climbing’ means ‘plummeting’ and ‘harbour’ means ‘giving up on’ then your journalist is spot-on.
Tim Ruffle, Orpington
Andrew Longmore and Stuart Barnes (last week) missed the essential point when quoting Danny Cipriani’s single expletive in his postmatch interview at Twickenham. The young man was gallantly deflecting most of the praise for the result onto the excellent England pack. Your readers will find many more f-words in well-known cookery programmes.
Walford Gillison, Dulverton
Stuart Barnes talks nothing but claptrap when he says Danny Cipriani should be the next England captain. Barnes is very frustrating but, annoyingly, also very readable.
Boyd Hackett, Kempston
I was annoyed with the way the BBC commentators treated Brian Ashton after England v Ireland last week, but Sonia McLoughlin plumbed new depths. His team had won but all she could ask was whether Ashton would keep his job. The BBC should leave such rubbish to the tabloids.
Brian Perryman, via e-mail
I can’t believe that Stephen Jones is advocating the appointment of Sir Clive Woodward as England’s director of elite rugby. After Woodward’s disastrous management of the 2005 Lions tour to New Zealand, I wouldn’t trust him to organise half-time drinks in a Division Two game.
Gavin Pike, Conwy
As a Cheltenham devotee and Kauto Star fan, I felt mentally drained after last Friday’s Gold Cup, a feeling that lasted until I read David Walsh’s masterclass article last Sunday. I felt better by lunchtime.
John Wilcox, London
So The Sunday Times feels that one match played quite well by Cipriani (front page, last week) takes precedence over a superb Wales Grand Slam. Careful, your bias is showing.
