Kevin Sireau qualified fastest in the men’s 200m individual sprint at the world track cycling championships in Manchester.

Sireau recorded the only sub ten second ride in a French 1-2-3 to get the best seeding of the top sprinters in round one. All the top six made it through to the quarter finals.

Sireau, who helped France to gold in the men's team sprint on the opening day on Wednesday, set a time of 9.992sec.Gregory Bauge and Mickael Bourgain took second and third place respectively in 10.028 and 10.029.

Dutchman Theo Bos, the reigning world champion and world record holder, finished fourth after tying with Britain's Chris Hoy.

There are no repechages rounds in the men's sprint competition.
