Marion Jones: The tainted titles

Once the golden girl of women's athletics, US sprinter Marion Jones' chequered career has taken another downturn after she admitted taking performance-enhancing substances before the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, despite years of denials.

As a result, Jones, now married to Barbadian sprinter Obadele Thompson, has been forced to return all five medals she won in Sydney, which include gold in the 100 and 200 metres and the women's 4x100m relay, as well as bronze in the long jump and the women's 4x400m relay.

She could also face up to six months in jail if convicted, completing a spectacular fall from grace for one of most vaunted athletes of her generation.
