Kelly Sotherton is back in the hunt for the World Indoor Pentathlon title after producing a superb leap in the last round of the long jump.

Sotherton's medal hopes hung by a thread after she fouled both her opening jumps in the competition. However, the Commenwealth champion saved her best for last producing a jump of 6.42 metres to move back into second overall, 107 points behind long-time leader Belgium's Tia Hellebaut.

With two of her best events, the long jump and 800 metres, yet to come, she could still even have an outside chance of winning gold.

Sotherton's medals hopes had looked bleak after she dropped to fifth after a poor performance in the shot put. She went into the afternoon session in third place after winning the 60 metres hurdles and finishing fourth in the high jump.

However, she slipped back in the shot after Hellebaut posted a personal best of 13.85metres to take the lead while Nataliya Dobrynska and Austra Skujyte moved into the other medal positions.

Elsewhere, Chris Tomlinson, another genuine gold medal hope, cruised into the final of the long jump achieveing the qualifying distance with his first attempt, sailing out to 7.95 metres.

Lisa Dobriskey and Helen Clitheroe both qualified for the women's 3,000m final, and Mo Farah breezed into the final of the men's 3,000m.
