If you had not become a boxer, what would you be doing now? I would have a career in business. I graduated in business from college.
What was your best moment in boxing? Winning my first world title, a second-round stoppage against Suzy Taylor at The Aladdin in Las Vegas. It was my best moment because I achieved all I was working for.
What was your toughest fight? Against Jacqui Frazier-Lyde, the daughter of Joe Frazier. We both knew that people were watching all over the world and they called it Ali-Frazier IV. She wanted the match
Which athletes do you most enjoy watching? I like watching Venus and Serena Williams because they are so professional and dedicated.
If you could change one thing about your sport, what would it be? There are many things to change. I would most like to change the distance women box. It should be three-minute rounds and 12 rounds for championship fights, just as it is for the men.
What book did you last read? I had my first baby in September, Curtis Muhammad Jr, so I have been reading books such as Baby Green: C a r i n g F o r Y o u r B a b y T h e Eco-Friendly Way.
What music do you listen to and what was the last song you downloaded? I listen to R&B and jazz. The last song I downloaded would have been one by the neo-soul singer, Jill Scott, whose songs discuss real issues I can relate to.
What was the last movie you went to see? The Will Smith movie Hancock.
You have competed in the American TV show Dancing With The Stars and have p r e s e n t e d t h e r e v i v e d Gladiators series. Which was more challenging? Presenting Gladiators was great but Dancing With The Stars was the more challenging, hands down. Having to deal with a partner and having to practise week to week was tough. I had to depend on my partner for everything because he was also my teacher and we had a lot of bad days. But we made it to the final and finished third, which was great.
Where in the world is your favourite holiday destination? Bermuda. I have friends there, the people are warm and friendly and the food is great. My favourite food, however, is Jamaican food, which has lots of flavour. I make a very nice curry chicken, Jamaican-style, even if I say so myself.
You once said about your childhood, ‘I was trying to find myself, not wanting to be Muhammad Ali’s daughter.’ What did you mean? I said that when I was younger and what I meant was that I didn’t want to be identified through my father. I have always wanted to be my own individual. That said, I’ll always be his daughter.
You last boxed in February 2007. Will you ever box again? I really don’t know. I’m not retired from boxing but I haven’t made up my mind. It will be whatever I feel at the time.
Would you allow your son to box? I would rather my child did not box. There are too many other things to be successful in. I won’t be pushing my child in this direction. Boxing’s for crazy people.
