Michael Rasmussen of Denmark, the current leader of the Tour de France, has been dropped by his national federation in a growing controversy over his availability for out-of-competition drugs testing.
Rasmussen has been dropped from the Danish national team after receiving several warnings from the International Cycling Union (UCI) and anti-doping authorities, revealed the Danish Cycling Union (DCU) on its website last night.
Rasmussen has been leading the Tour since his spectacular solo Alpine victory in Tignes last Sunday,
According to Danish television reports, Rasmussen, who trained at altitude in Mexico prior to this year’s Tour, received the warning for failing to inform anti-doping authorities of his whereabouts.
Rasmussen will not be selected by the DCU for the next World Road Championships in Stuttgart this autumn, nor for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, DCU director Jesper Worre said.

Unlike Michael Rasmussen, DCU director Jesper Worre during his active days tested positive on several occasions. Who said 'double standards'?
Henrik Nielsen, Copenhagen, Denmark
Strange how Rassmussen was allowed to race in the Danish Road Cycling Championships organised by the Danish Cycling Union on July the 1st after being told on June the 26th that he'd not be selected for future World Championships and Olympic games.
Could it be the DCU or more specifically Jesper Worre its director is after some publicity? Why wait until the 19th of July?
