The 32nd America's Cup as it happened after Swiss defender Alinghi retained its title by beating challenger Emirates Team New Zealand 5-2 in the best-of-nine series.
Race one: Alinghi 1 Emirates Team New Zealand 0
Alinghi won by 35 seconds in choppy race conditions with windspeed steady at around 12.5 knots after leading through all four marks to set down an ominous marker to Team New Zealand, who had suffered a humiliating 5-0 whitewash to Alinghi in the 2003 edition.
Both boats made a clean start with a starboard tack but Alinghi forced Team New Zealand to tack off some 10 minutes into the race.
The Swiss turned the screw with three sharp tacks that saw them build up a comfortable margin over the Kiwis - at times of up to 160m - which they maintained through to the finish line.
Race two: Alinghi 1 Emirates Team New Zealand 1
Team New Zealand struck back to win by 28sec in ideal race conditions after surging past Alinghi on the third leg after a poor tack by the Swiss.
The victory brought to an end the 16-match winning streak Alinghi skipper Brad Butterworth has enjoyed in the America's Cup, both onboard Alinghi and previous Team New Zealand crews.
Race three: Alinghi 1 Emirates Team New Zealand 2
Team New Zealand recovered from a dreadful crewing error to snatch victory by 25sec in tricky race conditions that saw oscillating wind and big sea swell.
Having built up what looked like an unsurmontable 1:23 lead over the Swiss by the first mark, the Kiwis saw a crew member dunked overboard and the descending spinnaker become caught in the jib block.
Alinghi took the lead around the third and final mark, but the Kiwis recovered for a memorable win.
