Live Olympics coverage | Australians face up to losing to Britain
Victoria Pendleton and Chris Hoy won Great Britain's 14th and 15th gold medals of the Olympic Games with scintillating performances in the individual track cycling sprints.
By beating his British team-mate Jason Kenny 2-0 in the three-legged final of the men's individual cycling sprint, Hoy became the first Briton in a century to clinch three golds at one Olympics.
The two riders reached speeds in excess of 70kph in a high-octane battle, but 32-year-old Hoy's finishing power proved too strong for his 20-year-old rival at the Laoshan Velodrome.
The Scottish cyclist's achievement followed that of Pendleton, 27, who won the women's individual sprint shortly beforehand by beating Australia's Anna Meares 2-0 in front of hundreds of rapturous British fans.
Pendleton, who reinvented her approach to the sport after finishing ninth in Athens four years ago, adds Olympic gold to the World Championship and World Cup victories achieved in sprinting and the keirin in the past year. "It doesn't feel real yet," she said. "Everything went to plan but after the success of the team I felt it might be too much to ask."
The victories cap another remarkable day for Team GB, who were set a target of 12 gold medals by UK Sport but have exceeded all expectations by winning 16 with five days of the Games still to go.

the replay shows her slowing down in the final 5 yards, once she knows she has the gold medal. Just like Mr Bolt did. Is this a new trend for athletes to avoid too much spotlight if their performance seems too good to be true ?

"...I will never accept Christine Ohuorougo as the winner"
Just as well that your opinion is not being sought by any high authority!
Helen, London,
Christine Ohuruogu missed 3 out of competition drug tests and was banned for 1 year. I wonder why??
mark, dublin,
Good for Britain!
Bob Delli, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Has anyone noticed how the American's by default show their medal table ordered according to total medals won and not gold medals? Which puts them on top and us in 5th place (behind the Aussies).
Is there an official table?
Christian West, Guildford,
