1545BST In the showjumping in Hong Kong, Ludger Beerbaum, of Germany, has gone in to first position after going round clear.

1539BST It appears that some of the pentathletes have been moaning about their horses after the showjumping round was littered with penalties. Athletes got horses at random from the Hong Kong Jockyey Club and some did not perform that well. But, Klaus Schormann, president of the International Modern Pentathlon Union, is having none of it. "If someone is not performing well, immediately, the horse is bad," he said. "This is not true. We tested the horses, all the athletes saw the horses. I, as president was at all these tests, so I could judge for myself. This is a very easy excuse, the horse is bad. The horses have been selected properly, don't blame the Chinese." 1535BST Nelson Evora's gold in the triple jump was Portugal's first since Fernanda Ribeiro won the women's 10,000m at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Evora became a Portuguese citizen in 2002 afer previously competing for the Cape Islands.
