David Roberts, the Paralympic swimmer who claimed four gold medals in Beijing, is "absolutely thrilled" after being chosen to carry the Great Britain flag at Wednesday's closing ceremony.
The Welshman has now equalled Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson as the UK’s leading Paralympian with 11 titles after previously claiming three golds in Sydney in 2000 and four in Athens in 2004.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be chosen to carry the flag at the closing ceremony;" Roberts said.
"Beijing has been a fantastic experience for me and to achieve my goal of winning four gold medals is incredibly satisfying.”
The 28-year-old led from the front as Britain's swimmers achieved 11 golds in the Beijing Water Cube and 41 in total.
After missing the opening ceremony due to the early start to his event, he is now keen to savour the occasion with the eyes of the world on the GB side ahead of the London games in 2012.
“To be given the huge honour of carrying the flag for such a successful team is overwhelming;" Roberts added.
"It is going to be a very special moment.”
Meanwhile on the track, the British sprint team claimed a further two medals to bring the tally for the entre games up to 98.
Mickey Bushell, the Telford-based wheelchair racer, claimed silver in the men's T53 100 metres with a time of 14.86 seconds, just 0.09secs behind American gold medallist Josh George.
Hazel Simpson, the 29-year-old sprinter from Tyne and Wear, picked up her second medal of the games with a bronze in the women's T36 100m. The race was China's defending Paralympic champion Wang Fang who set a new world record with a time of 13.82secs.
While a 99th medal came when Britain's wheelchair basketball team equalled their achievement from four years ago with bronze. Britain defeated the United States 85-77 at the National Indoor Stadium. Terence Bywater scored 32 points.
Shelly Woods then won Great Britain's 100th medal of the Paralympic Games with silver in the women's T54 1,500 metres.
The 22-year-old has endured a trying Games after she was forced to return a silver medal following a crash on the penultimate lap of the 5,000m final.
The International Paralympic Committee ordered a re-run and Woods responded from the disappointment by claiming bronze four days later at the Bird's Nest Stadium. The 2007 London marathon champion won her second medal of the Games in the 1,500m, finishing in three minutes 40.99sec as Chantal Petitclerc claimed gold in 3mins 39.88.
