Ryan Moore made his first visit to Newmarket yesterday when he rode out for Sir Michael Stoute, who has retained his services this season. It was eye-catching that Moore was aboard Confront, on whom he won the Hyperion Stakes at Ascot in October.

Another jockey to visit Newmarket was Alan Munro, who linked up with Peter Chapple-Hyam. “It is good to have Alan back,” the trainer said. “He will ride most of mine this season - although Jimmy Fortune will ride some of the horses he rode last year, like Tariq.”

Chapple-Hyam plans to send Winker Watson to the 2,000 Guineas on May 2 without a prep race. The unbeaten two-year-old was an intended runner in the Middle Park Stakes until his trainer spotted something amiss with his action. “We had him X-rayed and there was a problem with one of his knees,” he said, “but he's fine now. He's not bred to get a mile but I am hopeful.”

Cape Amber, a winner on her sole outing last term, will represent Chapple-Hyam in the 1,000 Guineas. “I think she is the best three-year-old in my yard,” he said, “and I'd like to think she will be an Oaks filly.”

Declaration Of War will contest the Craven Stakes, Western Art the Free Handicap and Whistledownwind the Classic Trial at Sandown.

Listen and Zarkava join Cape Amber among an initial entry of 91 fillies for the Juddmonte Oaks at Epsom on June 6. Aidan O'Brien, Listen's trainer, has 22 entries, while Jim Bolger provides seven.
