The switch from heavy ground at York to a fast surface at Newmarket has totally changed the complexion of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (3.05) and Dandy Man looks most likely to be benefit.
He has been desperately unlucky not to land one of the top sprints in recent seasons, notably the King's Stand at Royal Ascot, in which he has gone close from a bad draw in each of the past three seasons.
Dandy Man appeared not to handle the undulations of Goodwood when third to Enticing in the Audi Stakes last time, hanging right in the closing stages having looked likely to win.
He showed that this track suits him when fifth in the July Cup last year, travelling as well as any through the race but just failing to see out the six-furlong trip. Back to the minimum trip and with the ground in his favour, Dandy Man rates a good bet at 12-1 with totesport to provide the Godolphin team with a much-needed boost.
Michita holds solid claims in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (2.05). She hated the track when only seventh in the Oaks at Epsom and duly bounced back to her best when routing the opposition in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. She remains unexposed over middle distances and can prove too strong for Lush Lashes, who has shown her form over shorter.
Bonnie Charlie, who was beaten just a head by Finjaan in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, will be a warm favourite for the DBS £300,000 St Leger Yearling Sales Stakes (2.35). However, he is far from certain to appreciate this stiffer test and Fitz Flyer can cause an upset. The latter has finished a close second on both starts, with the form of each run working out extremely well, notably his latest neck second to Weatherstaff at Ayr, from which the third and fourth both won next time. He can gain a deserved success.
At Newbury, the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes (1.45) can go to Marine Boy. Tom Dascombe, his trainer, has a terrific bunch of juveniles in his yard but this has long been rated the pick of them and he could not have been more impressive when making a winning debut over course and distance by seven lengths from subsequent winner Glen Molly. He will be hard to beat.
The totesport Newburgh Heritage Handicap (3.25) has been drawn up as a replacement for the Ebor and has attracted many of the intended runners for that historic race. Pick of them is Pippa Greene, who stayed on strongly to beat Young Mick at Ascot last time and promises to be even more effective over this longer trip. He looks great value at 11-1 with the sponsors.
