Danny Hiskett, 17, is a stable lad in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. He left school after taking his GCSEs and went to racing school because he already knew which career he wanted.

He works at Martin Keighley's racing stables, looking after four horses. He said: “My Dad was a jockey. I've been around horses for a while and have a passion for it. I started riding when I was 11 and used to go and watch my Dad.

“I get up at 5.20am to start work at 6am. I feed the horses, muck them out, ride them, do their beds up and sweep the yard. Between 12 and 3 I have a break, then I start again: I get out the horses, brush them off, hay and feed them, then make sure that they are comfortable for the night. I ride them for about three or four hours a day,” he said.

Danny's ambition is to be a jump jockey. “I'd like to see how well I can do.”

The job has an impact on his lifestyle. He said: “I can't stay up very late or be out partying all night. The money isn't the best, so you've got to have a passion for it.”
