Mike Tindall, the injured England centre, has been bailed by police until April 29 on suspicion of drink-driving. It was confirmed yesterday that Tindall, who is recovering from a liver injury and is unlikely to play again this season, was stopped on the M4 on Saturday on his way to England's RBS Six Nations Championship match against Ireland at Twickenham, where he was due to appear as a television pundit.

Tindall, 29, was taken to Newbury police station after failing a roadside breath test. The results of a blood test will determine whether he is to be charged.

Alan Gaffney is rejoining Leinster as backs coach. Gaffney, who has signed a two-year contract with the Irish province he led to Celtic League success in 2002, is stepping down as director of rugby at Saracens at the end of the season. However, he will continue to work for the club on a part-time consultancy basis.

Paul Hull, the Bristol assistant coach, is staying at the club until at least 2011 after agreeing a new deal.

Newcastle Falcons have signed Spencer Davey, the former Bath centre, from Doncaster and Worcester Warriors have secured the services of Matt Mullan, 21, their highly rated prop, for another two years.
