A 49-12 victory over Worcester Warriors, their sixth consecutive league win, left London Wasps well placed to launch an end-of-season surge towards the play-offs and give Lawrence Dallaglio the perfect present to end his career.
However, Saturday’s victory was marred by a fractured fibula suffered by Dave Walder, who will be out for 12 weeks. Otherwise, Wasps have everyone fit — Joe Worsley and Tom Voyce made comebacks on Saturday — and, while the squad may not be the largest in the Guinness Premiership, man for man it stands comparison to any other. The biggest problem is the fixture backlog; they have to play three times in a week twice.
Wasps’ combination of power and speed was far more than an understrength Worcester could cope with, and seven tries, including one by Danny Cipriani, was reward for their dominance. With two games in hand, they stand ten points behind the leaders, Gloucester, who temporarily went six points clear at the top after a 39-15 win over Saracens. As for Worcester, who fielded seven players aged 22 or under, their focus is on their remaining matches, against Bath, Bristol and Newcastle Falcons, and a semi-final against Newcastle in the European Challenge Cup.
