England international Danny Grewcock has signed a one-year contract extension with Bath. The veteran lock, capped 69 times by England, will now stay at the club until the end of the 2009-10 season.

"Winning the European Challenge Cup was just reward for the players and the coaches at the club and also for the efforts I have put in during my time here," Grewcock said.

The 35-year-old will compete with summer signings Stuart Hooper, Justin Harrison and Scott Hobson, the England Under-20 international, for a place in the second row.

Grewcock signed for Bath from Saracens in 2001 and has played in 174 games for the club in all competitions, making an important contribution to the club's European Challenge Cup triumph last season.

Steve Meehan, the Bath head coach said: “It's terrific that Danny has decided to stay on for a further season. He's in great condition and provides the squad with plenty of experience, drive and leadership.

“He represents perfectly the character of person we want at Bath and I'm sure he will continue to be one of the best performing locks in the Premiership.”
