The dream start to Selkirk's season may have been derailed last week at Hawick, but they have a chance to firmly establish their Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership division one credentials today when they face Watsonians, the club that replaced them as second in the table.
Kevin Barrie, the Selkirk coach, has warned his players that a good start to the season is not enough to guarantee a good finish - Hawick had a winning streak early in the last campaign but still flirted with relegation - and that if they are to have any aspirations of staying among the clubs at the top of the table, then they have to win these vital home games.
Not that the Edinburgh club have anything like the same hang-ups about travelling to the Borders that they used to have, and after their creditable performance in beating West of Scotland last week to climb to one place and three points behind Ayr, the Premiership leaders, Watsonians have made only one front-row change to the squad.
They are hoping that Stirling County, second bottom but buoyed by their battling draw at Currie, can do them a favour and upset Ayr at Bridgehaugh, but in reality they would be more than happy if the men from the west fail to register a try bonus - they got one last week and still got a roasting from Kenny Murray, the coach, for the quality of play.
If Ayr are to have any realistic hope of staying top through to the end of the season, then they have to come away from these games against teams at the foot of the table with maximum points, and Murray knows that.
Elsewhere, Edinburgh Accies are expecting all their young stars to be back for their home tie against Melrose, who are still struggling with injuries, while Chris Fusaro, who missed out on making his professional debut for Edinburgh a fortnight ago after injuring a thigh, returns to Heriot's for the match at West of Scotland. The rest of the action is in Edinburgh where Boroughmuir host Hawick and Currie host Glasgow Hawks.
