Lee Byrne - put down a marker for the international series with an inspirational game, highlighted with the solo try that gave the Lions the platform for their late surge. 8
Tommy Bowe - tidy display which included the first Lions try of the tour but suffered from uncertainty by his inside backs and seldom given space. 6
Keith Earls - overcome by the occasion initially, too many errors, but worked hard to find a way back into the game and will benefit from the experience 3
Jamie Roberts - another Welshman who made the most of his early opportunity with his powerful running. Always crossed the gain line and gave his forwards something to play off. 7
Shane Williams - yet to recover the sparkle of 2008 and will be annoyed to have lost possession in the act of crossing for a try. Must work hard for a test place. 5
Ronan O'Gara - perfect return from his goalkicking which was needed on the day. Steady game, coming to terms with the flight of the ball when territory was required. 7
Mike Blair - harrassed all afternoon by his opposite number, failed to make his mark in the way he would have liked. Not that his forwards gave him much help. 4
Andrew Sheridan - part of a strong front five and going well in the final quarter, despite blisters, when altitude and temperature should have been taking their toll. 6
Matthew Rees - annoyed to lose a ball kicked through at an attacking scrum, lineout throwing shaky but worked hard in the loose to compensate. 5
Adam Jones - posed problems at the set scrums but not as lively on the high velt as he has been for Wales in recent games. A heavy man still coming to terms with local conditions. 5
Simon Shaw - the oldest man in the squad worked hard around the park but could not impose himself in a disjointed match. Not much lineout ball thrown his way. 5
Paul O'Connell - once he got the rhythm into his legs, the captain set a fine example. Stronger ball-carrying the longer the game went on, helped set up two tries. 7
Joe Worsley - back at blind-side after an international season at No 7, found it hard to make headway in an unbalanced back row and will be itching for another shot. 5
Martyn Williams - needed greater team fluency for all his skills to be seen but the best of the back row and provided the pass for the final try. 6
David Wallace - asked to play No 8 on the morning and made limited headway in the area where the Royal XV were strongest. Deserves another chance in his better position of flanker. 5
Replacements
Phil Vickery, Alun-Wyn Jones, Mike Phillips, Riki Flutey and Jamie Heaslip all came on with 14 minutes left, just when the Lions were achieving some momentum, and their fresh legs helped kill off the Royal XV. Lee Mears played the final 11 minutes. Stephen Jones was not used.
