What did you make of Andy Murray's victory?
It was very creditable. I must say I thought Malisse would give him a better
match, so it was disappointing that he wasn't pushed harder. He probably had
two little spells of the match where he just dropped his level, but on the
whole it was a very confident, very strong and a thoroughly professional
win.
How far can he go on this form?
Well he has got Tommy Haas in the third round who is an experienced
campaigner. He has been to the semi-finals of the grand-slams before, but it
has been a while. Haas is a good grass court player and it will be a good
test for Andy.
Haas is a different player altogether from Malisse. So far Andy has had three
completely different players to deal with. Haas is very solid, but the way
Andy has started, two straight sets matches is very creditable in the
circumstances. His displays show he is moving well and playing well which is
very encouraging.
What about Rafael Nadal's match?
I though this was going to be an important match for Rafa.
Gulbis, of the young players coming into the game, is the one who is equipped
to go all the way. He is a great player with an excellent all-round game,
but Nadal's response to losing the first set was very impressive. You could
tell by the joy on his face at the end how much it meant to him. It was a
very good performance, after a slightly hesitant start.
What else has caught your eye today?
Anne Keothavong had so many opportunities against Venus Williams, and for that she deserves credit. But just when she needed to have one secure shot or one good rally Venus came up with the goods, but that is what champions do.
Anne has done really well, she is the first British women to gain direct entry
to Wimbledon for a decade, she didn't fade away today, she competed very
well, but against a grand-slam champion when you have chances you have to
take them.
What are you looking forward to seeing tonight?
One match I am looking forward to is between two Frenchmen: Jeremy Chardy and Paul-Henri Mathieu. Chardy did really well at the French Open and is here on a wild card as a former boys' champion. For those who like their tennis played the right way it has the makings of a very fine match indeed.
