S Williams beat V Williams 7-6(7-3), 6-2
Serena Williams easily overcame her below-par sister, Venus, to claim her third Wimbledon singles title.
Serena's powerful serve was consistent throughout and there was only one game - in the first set - when Venus came close to challenging it.
Defending champion Venus was really not at the races today. Despite hardly dropping a game this year, let alone a set, she never looked like beating her sister today. She has now lost three times in the final to Serena.
After Serena won the first-set tie-break, Venus faded dramaticallty and looked very lethargic as she capitulated 6-2 in the second set.
Venus 2, Serena 6: Starts with a double fault; then a languid backhand into the net for love-30; Serena misses wide going across court for 15-30; then a powerful smash from Venus out of nowhere - maybe she has some fight left; wayward forehand from Venus gives us Championship point; but a nice second serve spinning away from Serena's forehand saves it; Venus is really fighting now but either runs out of gas or slips as Serena brings up another match point after a long rally; starting to get the impression Serena hasn't got the heart to finish off her sister - easy chance for a winner is wasted; Williams zips a forehand almost on the half-volley to gain her first Advantage of the game; but another great rally ends with a capitulation in the net; a third match point for Serena after her sister's error; but again she fails to land the killer blow; fourth match point sent into the net by Venus - Serena wins her third Wimbledon singles title.
Venus 2, Serena 5: Serena's 12th ace of the match helps her to turn the screw and now Venus has to hold serve to save the match. It could be all over very soon. Venus's face tells a story, and I think Serena can see she is not right. Not sure if it is the injured left knee or something more psycological, but she is not on her game.
Venus 2, Serena 4: Finally a break. And it comes courtesy of a Venus double fault - the first of the match, I think. Venus's body language does not seem right for someone who loves Wimbledon so much.
Venus 2, Serena 3: Another easy service game for Serena. Venus is hardly putting up any resistance when returning - and it appears to be only Serena's own mistakes that are stopping her from taking the advantage in this set.
Venus 2, Serena 2: Serena just failing by small margins as she continues to pressure the Venus second serve. She has had the chances but is just not taking them.
Venus 1, Serena 2: Serena is still looking very strong on her serve as the new balls come out. Does not look like she will be broken any time soon.
