The 'when are we going to get some rain?' story was certainly a new one. The complete 360 degree shift of people praying for rain so they could watch the roof work.
On the tennis side of things. Andy Murray's match with Stanislas Wawrinka was to my mind the pick of the championships. Not just because Murray was involved, but because of all the elements that saw that match finish in such dramatic scenes and at 10.40 at night - let's hope that kind of late night match is not a sign of things to come.
On the women's side, I was extremely disappointed by the early loss of Maria Sharapova, the injury to Ana Ivanovic and the poor form of Jelena Jankovic. All of which left us with what I have always thought was an wholly unsatisfactory final. It's not the Williams sisters' fault that are as good as they are but it is just one of the matches that you can't get terribly excited about. That makes it very difficult to write about it, watch it or follow it with the kind of enthusiasm that any sport needs.
What will Rafael Nadal have made of the championships?
He might have thought there were occasions in the final when Roger was not playing at his elegant best. There were signs that Federer was a bit jittery, so I am sure Rafa would have seen it as a great opportunity. But the most important thing is that he gets himself 100 per cent physically right and doesn't leap back just because he is so eager to play - as we know he is.
But it is a "slowly, slowly" prognosis on his injury and he must make sure that when he does come back on the hard courts, which exacerbate any problems with joints, he is 100 per cent. His unique style is badly missed by the game, but he mustn't rush back because that would only cause more problems.
Will Andy Murray look back on the championships and regret an opportunity missed?
Yes and no. Every grand-slam tournament that he doesn't win should now be seen as a missed opportunity. However, he did improve on last year's performance, which is what he has done at every grand-slam event. He reached the quarter-finals at the French Open, the final at last year's US Open, it is just the Australian Open, where he has reached the fourth round, that has eluded him. Each time there has been an improvement.
If he had watched the final, which we are told he didn't because he was off go-karting at the time, he would have said "if I had the opportunities that Roddick had, I bet I would have taken them". Each grand-slam tournament that goes by without a Murray win, you think "what if". So yes, there will be regrets but there is no question that he is getting there.
