Sign up now to be one of The Times Fringe text critics and have the chance to win a Blackberry, a weekend for two in London AND all your Fringe ticket money back up to a maximum of £1000.
How it works
Simply opt in when you buy your tickets on www.edfringe.com or over the phone at The Times Fringe box office. Immediately after each Fringe performance you attend, you'll receive a text from The Times asking what you thought of the show. Just text back TCC followed by your vote (rating 1-5) and submit a four-word review of the show for the chance to win a prize.
For example text TCC 1 the joke’s on him
The top 10 shows, as rated by Times Text Critics, will appear live on TimesOnline and the most original four word-reviews will be published.
All Times Text Critics will also gain exclusive entry to The Text Critics Club at The Hudson bar in Edinburgh to escape the Festival Fringe throng.
All you pay are your standard network charges
One lucky winner will receive a refund of all their Fringe tickets (up to a maximum of £1000 - cannot be exchanged for cash), a weekend for two in a central London Hotel and a visit to a London show or theatre event of their choice and a Blackberry.
An additional nine lucky winners will receive a Blackberry.
Terms and Conditions Text Critic Promotion
1. The closing date for competition entries is midday (UK time) August 29th 2006.
2. The competition is open to visitors to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, except employees of News International Limited (NI), Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Roundpoint Ltd and their associated, affiliated or subsidiary companies, and their families, agents, or anyone connected with this Competition.
3. Entries must be sent by SMS text message to the advertised number with the message preceded by the letters TC and the code of the show they are voting for (suuplied in preceding SMS text message). After TC and the show code a space must be inserted and then a number denoting the entrants rating of the overall performance between the numbers of 1 to 5. 1 will denote the lowest quality of performance and 5 the highest quality of performance. After this ‘rating’ number a space must be inserted and then the entrant must write their personal review of the event in no more than 4 words. Only entries that include the entrant’s own 4 word review of a show will be considered a valid entry.
Each entry must be the original work of the author and not previously published. Entries will be judged on their flair and originality by a panel selected by the promoter and organisers. The ten reviews judged the best will each win a Blackberry mobile handset. An overall winner will also receive a weekend for two in a five-star London hotel and tickets to the West End show of their choice, including standard class rail travel to London from a UK origination. All meals and other expenses will be the responsibility of the winner or their guest. West End show tickets subject to availability. Weekend must be taken by 30th July 2007 and excludes New Year’s eve and Christmas Day. The prizes offered do not include travel costs for non UK residents. They will also receive a refund for any Fringe tickets they have purchased up to a limit of £1,000.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
4. NI reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) other than the winning entry, and publication does not necessarily mean that the entrant has won a prize. NI reserves the right to edit entries in its discretion for publication. Entrants will retain copyright in their submitted entries, however by entering, all entrants licence NI a worldwide royalty free perpetual licence to edit, publish and use each entry in any and all media (including print and online) for publicity and news purposes. In particular, all entrants licence NI the right to print their entry on Times Online and in any other publications published by News International.
5. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, NI and Roundpoint Ltd will not be liable for any failure of receipt of entries. They take no responsibility for any entries that are lost, delayed, illegible, corrupted, damaged, incomplete or otherwise invalid. Entries may be rejected in the sole discretion of the judges, including for reasons of obscenity, defamation or invasion of privacy. Misrepresentative or fraudulent entries will invalidate an entry.
Entries must be sent by SMS. Each entry is free. Entrants may enter more than once.
6. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, News International Limited and Times Newspapers Limited reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions. Any amendments will be published on Times Online at www.timesonline.co.uk and here on www.edfringe.com.
7. No cash alternative. The prize is not transferable and no part or parts of the prize may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions.
8. The winners will be notified by the competition organizers by September 5 2006 and the prize will be supplied within 28 days. If the winner cannot be contacted by September 12, 2006, the prize will be offered to the entrant judged to be next best.
9. By entering, any subsequent prize winners agree to allow the free use of their names, photographs and general locations for publicity and news purposes during this and future promotions by The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Roundpoint Ltd and Times Newspapers Limited or any associated or subsidiary company of News International Limited.
