CHESTER

Chester is a brilliant city to spend a day in when the sun is shining. Put together a picnic, sit down by the River Dee watching the boats, cruisers and rowers, a walk back up round the Roman walls that surround the town, and have coffee and cakes in one of the quaint coffee shops in the Rows. YORK

Get up early, walk along the city walls and descend into the City to watch the sunrise over the Minster. Have brunch at Meltons Too, then work it off shopping on the Shambles. Relax on a riverboat then indulge in afternoon tea at Bettys. For fun chose the ghost tour or the Jorvic museum, for gastronomy head to Fossgate for oysters and Champagne. LONDON

I would spend the time exploring the riches of British produce at Borough and Smithfield Markets. I’d delve into Hatton Garden looking for sparkly treats made by fantastic, British designers. I’d dine in restaurants proffering fabulous British cuisine created by world famous British chefs.

Then I’d grab a cup of tea and sit and watch the world go by in Hyde Park, thinking how lucky I am to be in fabulous London. V Hansford, Saffron Walden, Essex

LONDON

My ideal summer's day in London would be spent in Kew Gardens. Step into the Palm House and you are transported to the tropical rainforest. Prepare to be blinded by the humidity steaming up your glasses, before you get to see, feel and smell the exotic plants and fruits - cocoa, papaya, bananas...

Hop across to the Waterlily House and giant Amazonian lilipads with florescent flowers leap into view while carnivorous pitcher plants dangle, menacing, from the ceiling. Exotic orchids await you in the Princess of Wales Conservatory. A whole summer is not enough to explore this haven. Nooraini Mydin, London
