I’m due to travel home on Zoom. What do I do?
Any Zoom flight that you have booked will not be departing. If you still wish
to travel, Zoom recommends contacting other carriers and lists several on
its website. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are offering special
one-way fares to stranded Zoom passengers
I bought tickets to fly with Zoom. Will I get my money back?
It depends. If you booked a Zoom flight as part of a package holiday then you
are almost certain to be covered by the Civil Aviation Authority’s Air
Travel Organisers’ Licensing system. This means that if you are presently
stranded, you should be brought home. If you have a future booking, you
should receive compensation
But I bought my ticket with my credit card. Does that mean I will be OK?
You should be. If your transaction was more than £100, your money is protected
under the terms of the Consumer Credit Act. Your money may be protected even
if the cost of your air travel was less than £100 and you paid by credit
card, but you should claim within a reasonable time. This protection does
not apply to debit cards such as Switch or Delta
What about people who paid cash for a flight-only deal with Zoom?
They won’t get their money back
Can I get a refund through my travel insurer?
Most travel insurers do not cover the failure of airlines, but more expensive
policies may do. It is worth checking the small print. If you booked flights
through a travel agent, you may receive financial protection against airline
bankruptcy if you purchased Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance, which can
be bought only through an agent. Check your travel documents or phone your
travel agent to find out
Is it risky to book tickets with other low-cost airlines?
Michael O’Leary, the boss of Ryanair, and the Air Transport Users Council are
among those who have forecast further airline bankruptcies this year. The
council is calling for more action to protect consumers. If you are booking
airline tickets, whether low cost or otherwise, you should ensure that the
booking is covered by Atol or under the Consumer Credit Act. It is also
worth checking your insurance
