The fire-juggling, lentil-munching citizens of the People's Republic of Brighton have cemented their reputations as righteous ecowarriors by becoming the first city in the UK to offer a tuk-tuk service. Launched last Friday, 12 of the iconic Bangkok three-wheelers will charge £2.50 a journey. The vehicles will run on a hybrid fuel of compressed gas and love.
SKI TRAIN ON SALE
If you’re planning to take the train to the Alps this winter, you’d better book it soon. On Tuesday, tickets for Eurostar’s ski train went on sale, and at the time of going to press, there were only 14 seats left on its most popular departure, February 10, 2007. The service starts on December 23 and there will be two direct trains each week from Waterloo to Bourg St Maurice in the French Alps. Tickets start from £149 return: to book, call 0870 518 6186 or visit www.eurostar.com.
TO GO BOLDLY
Space tourists could be blasting off from Scotland by 2010, says Virgin Galactic. Branson’s bid to boldly go has singled out the airbase at RAF Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth as the ideal launch site for the £110,000 flights of fantasy. “As far as the UK is concerned, it’s the only area we have found that has the right conditions,” says Virgin Galactic’s Will Whitehorn. “There are fewer people on the ground who can get injured,” he added.
TO THE SOUTHWEST
Aer Arann launched its Luton to Newquay service last week, with four flights a week from £29.99, one-way, including tax. While great news for families fearing the nightmare drive to the southwest, the service is not so good for surfers. The Irish airline charges £10, each way, for surfboards and can carry only two boards per flight, with a maximum length of 6ft 9in. Check www.aerarann.com for details.
FATAL ATTRACTIONS
We want you to tell us about the worst attractions you’ve ever had the misfortune to visit, the ones that were so miserable you almost lost the will to live. Whether it was a wet afternoon at a tiddlywinks festival or a zoo where the monkeys were hanging themselves from the trees, we want to know. The most awful experience wins six bottles of Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz. Go to www.timesonline.co.uk/yoursay to enter
